FARM TO SCHOOL PROGRAM

What is the aim of the program?
We produce a variety of nutrient-rich organic crops and we're keen to be part of the effort to boost the health of students through increased consumption of fresh vegetables, meat and eggs. Our Farm to School program teaches students about sustainable farming, the importance of low food miles and fresh, tasty produce. It connects students to agriculture and shows them how crops grow, while encouraging schools and families to look to local farmers to fill their fresh produce needs.

What happens on Day One of the program (in the classroom)?
Day One of the program is classroom-based. We come to the school and give students an introduction to farming, through multimedia, curriculum modules and educational activities. At lunch-time, students can pick up great culinary tips from us and make their own lunches from delicious, farm-fresh ingredients. We think cooking is an important part of the process. Day Two is spent on the farm.

What happens on day two of the program (on the farm)?
Harvest Moon is a certified organic 20 acre farm in Southwest Wisconsin. Day Two of the program takes place on the farm, where students can meet the farmers, take a tour of the barn, orchard and fields and learn where their food comes from.

How far is the farm from Chicago?
Harvest Moon is located four hours from downtown Chicago.
